BIOGRAPHY

Jill Hucklesby is a children’s author and screenwriter whose award-winning first novel, Deeper Than Blue, was published by Orchard Books in May 2007.

Born in Brighton, Jill gained an Honours degree in English and Drama before working in theatre, journalism and as a publicity consultant for arts and medical organisations, including Great Ormond Street Hospital. She lives near the sea in East Sussex with her family and Henry, the unruly retriever.

Her writing career began in television. She contributed to the ‘TeddyBears’ series on ITV and was nominated for the Television Arts Performance Showcase comedy writing award for a sitcom pilot, ‘Decapitating Cupid,’ screened at BAFTA in 2001. In the last year, she has worked closely with Endemol UK, who currently hold the TV option for Deeper Than Blue.

Jill has also written for the stage, winning the comedy award at the Arundel Festival for her play, ‘The Gumball Gargoyle’. Her musical for young children, ‘Johnny Minor’s Magic Secret’, toured schools in East Sussex and was nominated for the Vivian Ellis awards for new musicals at the London Palladium.

Highlights of 2011 were the publication of Jill’s new books for young teens, If I Could Fly and Samphire Song. If I Could Fly was the inspiration for several creative writing workshops at some of the UK’s leading literary festivals. With a pounding of hooves, Samphire Song arrived in July and is fast becoming a favourite amongst teens and horse-lovers.
